Cast iron is extremely porous and irregular in its shape when a cast is made. Blacknitriding helps fill voids in the cast material and protect the engine part from corrosion.

By engineering design, a coolant maintains a safe temperature in the locomotive’s combustion chamber. Unfortunately, coolant is corrosive. It cannot penetrate H&M Blacknitride+™. Blacknitride helps protect the steel, and therefore, improves the engine’s durability.
